Cocooning blanket

What actually makes a blanket cocooning?

Three things, in this order: the feel, the weight, and the size. A scratchy blanket will never be cocooning, however warm. A blanket that is too light never gives that wrapped-up feeling. And one that is too small forces you to choose between your feet and your shoulders.

  • The feel: chunky knit and knit have texture, fleece is smooth and even. That is a matter of preference, not quality.
  • The weight: a heavy blanket reassures and stays put. A light one shifts at the slightest movement.
  • The size: count on at least 59" x 79" (150 x 200 cm) for one person lying on a sofa.

Are cocooning and warm the same thing?

No. A blanket can be very warm and unpleasant against the skin, which is often the case with cheap synthetics that catch on the skin. Conversely, a knit at 63" x 51" (160 x 130 cm) is not the warmest in the range, but it is the one people keep on the longest. If pure warmth is your priority, look at our fleece throws instead.

Common questions

Does chunky knit shed? A little in the first weeks, as any wide-stitch knit does. It settles after that.

What size for two people? 79" x 91" (200 x 230 cm). Anything smaller and you both pull your own way.
